more stories

should be told

like this

with numbered lists

and flashing scenes

and teasing peeks

skipping around

the outlines

of a universe

and a sketchy blueprint

of a character alive in it

exploring surfaces

and cursory glimpses

brief encounters with substance

without getting substantial

stories

composed of impressions

instead of expositions

also

i wish

i knew

all this

about

dostoevsky

before my

introduction

to his stories

in high school

i would not have

written them off

as mandatory

punishment

had i known more

about the life

behind the words

i wish more teachers

spent more time

teaching students

about lives

behind stories

the two

are extensions

and mirrors

and completions

of each other
