be needed

ah banking

fewer industries

inspire more

divisive feelings

but like dishes

and daaaaaaaaamn daniel references

our modern lives

seem inextricably

woven with

banking

and bankers

are preparing

for the upcoming

apocalyptic algorithmic

takeover of our money system

but that issue

is tangential

to what i believe

is the core concern

most people have

when they imagine

robots running

or ruining

our world

many of us

grumble about our jobs

and our industries

but many of us

depend on our

designated roles

in our cubicle corners

not just for money

but for identity

we are what we do

so what happens

when so much of what we do

and so much of who we are

is rendered replaceable

and by robots no less

it makes us question

if we are

or ever were

needed

and the human need

to be needed

is a “yooj" deal

and now

we shift

from being needed

to punch clocks

at the beginnings and ends

of shifts

and being needed

to push papers

in the middles

of shifts

towards being needed

for something else

“people will

be needed

to conceive of

create

and maintain

new products

okay

so

of course those

and these words

provide no comfort

whatsoever

to anyone

in the position

of being forced

to re-identify

and re-humanize

but

perhaps

after some time

after new footing has been found

we can agree

that there is something lovely

in the shift

from the mechanical motions

of our modern lives

back to the ancient actions

of pondering

wondering

wandering

dreaming

inventing

asking

answering

making

creating

thinking

you know

the humanest things

the humanest needs
